I am an Australian living in Seattle (for 4 years now) and I love it!
This blog will be about things I’m passionate about; music, nonprofits, social media, travel, being a dad, fitness and anything else that inspires me.
Here’s a little more about me…
I moved to the US three years ago from Australia with a successful history in marketing, arts management and major event management only to be met with a flailing economy and an extremely unhealthy job market. Fortunately I found an opportunity with internationally acclaimed film company, Tri-Film Productions, where I produced some fun events which included a rock concert on the launch pad of a former Titan-1 Nuclear Missile Silo for a product launch in Eastern Washington. Perhaps, the highlight for me though was when I worked on the opening of the Dalai Lama Center of Ethics at MIT in Boston which included multiple speeches by His Holiness the Dalai Lama at both public and private events.
As the economy continued to tighten it’s squeeze on business, I produced a successful fundraiser for a local nonprofit which not only opened my eyes to the wonderful work being done in the Seattle area, but more importantly, to the plight of those nonprofits who were fighting to stay alive. With some self examination and a number of productive conversations with my peers, I decided that I would build a nonprofit around my interests and strengths in an effort to give back to a community I now call home. From here, Team Up for Nonprofits was born. Team Up is a nonprofit charged with building capacity for other nonprofits doing great work by delivering to them funds and awareness through music benefits without those nonprofits having to take their eye off their missions. Team Up books and manages their music benefits called “Gigs4Good” to help their nonprofit partners, but also to provide a fun and accessible opportunity for those in their 20′s and 30′s to have a philanthropic experience in the hope it will inspire them to do more of the same in the future.
I dedicated six months to building Team Up full-time. It was spent recruiting the Board of Directors, defining and booking the Gigs4Good events and building Team Up’s impressive social media program which has been used to engage the target audience, resulting in sell out shows and the development of a network of social media influencers who not only promote the benefits but also volunteer their services, such as west coast maven Shauna Causey who hosts each show live online. Two and a half years later and Team Up is a well known nonprofit in Seattle and we have produced 12 benefits so far and counting.
With Team Up charging forward, I, while continuing to help steer the ship in my capacity as Founder, have refocused back onto my professional life, recently becoming a Senior Vice President at the PR/Communications agency Weber Shandwick, after spending time at social media agency Spring Creek Group and Comcast.
